Artist Statement
I use imagery and media to traverse the space between thought and dimensional presence. This isn’t based on old concepts of ego or surrealist versions of the sublime. Instead I use noir humor to absurdly approach the deeply rooted consciousness of others. I draw from my personal presence and ask questions about what being present means, for myself and the rest of the town, city, country whomever. I draw inspiration from historical and current political topics. I use medium that is most appropriate for the concept, which leads me through much problem solving.  I have studied a variety of traditional and contemporary media and apply technique interchangeably between them. This is an essential part of the process for me. I value technique developed by tradition but then challenge “the rules” to create a new visual potential for the piece. My purpose is to generate new understandings about a subject by exposing an object’s material qualities in a new context.
